Ampersand causes underline in text label

I have designed a questionniare that uses several scale response items. A text label for one of the question responses requires an ampersand (&). However, this symbol does not display correctly. Instead, the character following the & is underlined instead.

So instead of reading "M & M's" it reads "M _M's"

I see no mention of a special role for the ampersand in the manual.

Is there some way to get the text label to display the & correctly?

Bottom line is that if you have an earlier release than that, use two ampersands (i.e., &&) to fix it.
