ranking and participant responses

I would like to be able to have participants review a list of values, rank them and then for the next quesiton have them respond to the value they placed as most important. I have successfully figured out the ranking but I am having trouble viewing the top ranked value on the next question. I have tried to follow the steps both in the advanced help section as well as the online threads...but I'm still running into trouble.

I'm using v2006.

If you could even email an example, I'd appreciate it.
