stop movie mid-playback and record when the movie stops

We have been working with trying to set-up a movie questionnaire such that a person can stop the movie whenever they want, and the program will record when the participant stopped the file.

1- We have a DirectRT input file that has these instructions. We currently do not have DirectRT, but we do have Medialab. Is the DirectRT file compatible with medialab?

2- And if not, is there a way in medialab to stop a movie file mid-playback and automatically record the timestamp of when the file was stopped?

    Kind Regards,
    Amanda

Yes. You can run your DirectRT input file from within MediaLab, but you do need to have DirectRT installed. You could, I think, do it alone with MediaLab though. Instead of using the Movie item type, you could use the Instruction item type (or any other type) and add a "backvideo". That way you will get a Continue button while the movie is playing. If the user clicks on it, or presses the spacebar, the movie will end and if you have the "write rt" option selected in the questionnaire, then you will get the RT in your data file. Note though that there is a bug in v2008.1.33 where on some systems, ending a backvideo early can cause problems. This is resolved in v2010 which you can try if you like if you run into any such problems with v2008. It also should not be an issue in any version of MediaLab prior to v2008.1.33.

    Hope that helps -Blair
