When filling in a blank with 9 numbers, is there anyway to only save the last three numbers? As mentioned before, I am having the participants create a confidential code, and it asks for the last three digits of their student number. Is there a way to have they write out all the digits but only save the last three in the data file and also to embed into another part? Or is their an easy way to do all of this?

There is no automatic way to do this, but if you have v2006, you could create a custom item using an html form. In fact, that may be an easier way to take care of your other v alidation question also (i.e., checking to see if all the characters are letters). Do you know or do you have someone there that can show you how to make a simple HTML form? If so, I can show you how to integrate it within your experiment.
