Simultaneous rating of positivity and negativity
Simultaneous rating of positivity and negativity
I’m having participants rate pictures that vary on their degree of negativity and positivity, and I was interested in their simultaneous ratings of positivity and negativity. To complete the simultaneous rating, I would like the participants to position a cursor onto a bivariate display (5x5 unit grid) with one dimension (horizontal) indicating positivity and the other negativity. I have not found a way to do this type of rating within MediaLab or DirectRT, and was wondering if it was possible?
Hm. It seems you may want to use DirectRT to complete this task. See the following for more information:

Let me know if this helps solve what you're trying to achieve.
Yes, using the cursor.txt feature does help. However, I am having a bit of a problem matching up what participants see on the screen with the response options I've programmed. I would like participants to respond on a 5 x 5 grid with Negativity (0 = not at all, 5 = extremely) on the Y axis and Positivity (0 = not at all, 5 = extremely) on the X axis. I’ve done the programming to make a 5 x 5 response grid using the cursor.txt feature, but it is unclear how one goes about matching the positivity x negativity rating grid/scale to the cursor.txt programming without doing a bunch of trial and error testing.
Hm - I don't quite understand what you mean. Are you having a problem placing an image over the region that you've specified within the cursor.txt file?
Perhaps explain the problem a bit further.
Remember that the ID you specify for each box can help identify what value they selected in reference to the positivity x negativity measurement you're using.
