Disabling navigation keys

I saw in a post where the "secret" navigation keys are listed:

I would like to know if there is a way to turn off this functionality. It seems like there is a conflict where some people are using Ctrl+Shift+Left Arrow in Essay responses to try to select previously typed text as they can in Word. Instead of selecting the text, they are getting sent back to the previous page (presumably because of the Ctrl+Left Arrow function). Of course, whatever they were typing before is erased. Is there anything I can do short of warning people each time not to do that?

Edit: Also, I am using v2006, and I tried adding k-1 as a parameter to the essay questions but it does not fix the issue.
